About Us

We started because we couldn't find saffron we could trust

Like many South Asian families in North America, we grew up with saffron as a fixture — in our biryanis, our milks, our celebrations, our remedies. And like many of those families, we eventually noticed that the “saffron” from the corner store didn't taste or color the way we remembered. Pale threads. No bloom. Labels that said “Kashmir origin” with no proof.

We started asking questions. What we found was an industry riddled with adulteration — safflower petals dyed red, saffron powder laced with colorants, Spanish saffron labeled as Kashmiri. Studies suggest that up to 70% of saffron sold in North America is adulterated in some way. We found that unacceptable.

Himalayan Saffron was founded to be the exception. We built direct relationships with small-scale family farms in Pampore — the Kashmir valley region with a provable thousand-year saffron history. We commissioned independent lab testing before our first shipment. We designed a batch traceability system so every jar carries a number that links to a public Certificate of Analysis. We priced our saffron honestly: not cheap, because real saffron cannot be cheap, but fair for what it genuinely is.

This is saffron you can cook with confidence, give as a gift with pride, and trust completely.

Our mission

Authentic saffron, fairly sourced

To make authentic, lab-verified Kashmiri saffron accessible to every North American kitchen — while ensuring the farmers who harvest it are paid fairly and seen clearly.

Radical transparency

Every batch is public. We hide nothing — every COA is downloadable, every Batch ID verifiable.

Direct sourcing

No brokers, no middlemen between our farmers and your jar. We pay above-market rates, in advance.

Honest pricing

Real saffron is expensive to produce. We don't fake it by cutting corners — and we don't pretend otherwise.

Cultural respect

Kashmiri saffron is a heritage crop. We treat it that way — in the field, in the jar, and on the page.
